Job Description: Camp Counselor – HYPE Summer Day Camp
Position Title: Camp Counselor
Locations: HYPE Athletics Center; HYPE (City of Dbn. Community Center; HYPE Belle Isle; HYPE Wayne
Program Dates: 9 Weeks (June 16 – August 15)
Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Employment Type: Part-Time or Full-Time
Compensation: $12–$18 per hour (based on experience)
Position Summary
HYPE Athletics is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Camp Counselors to join our HYPE Summer Day Camp Program. Camp Counselors will play a vital role in providing a fun, safe, and engaging environment for campers while acting as positive role models. The ideal candidate has a passion for working with kids, strong communication skills, and a high level of energy and creativity.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise & Engage Campers
- Lead and participate in camp activities, including sports, arts and crafts, games, and special events.
- Provide direct supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
- Encourage positive interactions and foster a sense of community among campers.
Facilitate Activities
- Assist in organizing and facilitating daily camp activities according to the program schedule.
- Adapt activities to fit the needs and interests of campers of varying ages and abilities.
- Maintain a fun and energetic environment while promoting teamwork and participation.
Promote Safety & Positive Behavior
- Enforce camp rules and guidelines consistently and fairly.
- Respond to any safety or behavioral concerns promptly and appropriately.
- Ensure that camp spaces, equipment, and supplies are used safely and responsibly.
Support Camp Operations
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of camp activities and spaces.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Communicate any camper or program concerns to the Camp Director or senior staff.
Qualifications
- Must be 16 years or older.
- Experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting preferred.
- Ability to lead and engage children in activities with enthusiasm and energy.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Patience, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
